JULIE BRANDHØJ, DENMARK
A family home by the Limfjord where history, atmosphere and Nuura come together.

HISTORIC ATMOSPHERE
At Home with Julie Brandhøj
In the small harbour town of Hjarbæk in Denmark, content creator Julie Brandhøj lives with her husband Christian Petri and their son Bertram in a beautifully restored family home overlooking the Limfjord. Originally built in 1926, the house has been in Julie’s family for generations, and throughout an extensive renovation and extension, preserving the home's soul has remained essential.

A Home Rooted in History and Nature
The house is shaped by its original architectural details and its unique location by the water. From restored doors and mouldings to the original staircase, Julie and Christian have carefully balanced heritage with modern living.
“It was incredibly important for us to protect the soul and history of the house throughout the renovation,” Julie explains.
“We’ve preserved and restored the original details, and even outside, the original cornice continues into the new extension.”
The home’s colour palette and material choices are inspired by the surrounding landscape and the family’s private beach by the fjord.
“We’ve brought the fjord and nature inside. Our view is constantly changing depending on the weather, and we wanted the lighting and interior to complement that beautifully, whether the water feels blue or grey.”

CREATING CALM THROUGH DESIGN AND LIGHT
For Julie, both lighting and design play a central role in shaping the home's atmosphere.
“For every room and every corner, we’ve chosen lamps that both complement and complete the interior,” she says.
The home is designed to create calm and connection, balancing aesthetics with the practical needs of everyday family life.
“For us, it has been important to create a beautiful synergy between all the rooms, while making sure each space functions in daily life. Our home should feel calm and welcoming.”
With ceilings reaching four metres in the kitchen, the house is designed to bring people together and offer space, warmth and openness.

THE NUURA TOUCH
Elevating the home with light
Nuura’s lighting has become an integral part of the interior, adding both atmosphere and cohesion throughout the home.
“Nuura’s lamps are like jewellery in our home, while each of them also serves an important function. They create light, atmosphere and connection from room to room,” Julie shares.
The family has chosen lamps with organic shapes and warm golden details that harmonise naturally with the home’s materials and colour palette.
Placed throughout the spaces, the lamps enhance the calm and tactile atmosphere while adding elegance and softness to the historic surroundings.

A HOME DESIGNED TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER
At its heart, Julie and Christian’s home is designed to bring people together. It is a home where family history, modern functionality and thoughtful design coexist in harmony.
With Nuura as part of the interior, light becomes more than illumination; it becomes an essential element in shaping the feeling of warmth, tranquillity and togetherness that defines their home in Hjarbæk.
