At Home with Henriette Jarlstrøm
A little outside the coastal town of Gilleleje, Henriette Jarlstrøm and her husband Lasse, have created a home that reflects both their aesthetic vision and their life as a family of five. Together with their children, Aksel, Hannah and Vester, they have transformed a house into a warm and harmonious setting where everyday life and design coexist.
The family took over the house in 2017, shortly after Aksel was born, and moved from Copenhagen to the countryside.
“We moved in when Aksel was just three months old and started renovating right away. We began with a new roof and windows on the first floor, and from there, we simply took one room at a time,” Henriette shares.
Since then, the home has been continuously developed, evolving alongside the family’s needs and daily rhythms.
Light that activates the space
Light plays a central role in Henriette’s approach to interior design, not only as a functional necessity, but as a way to shape atmosphere and experience.
“Light is essential in our home. It’s not just about function, but about mood and how a space feels,” she explains. “When light highlights the right areas, it activates the room and brings forward the details we care about.”
Creating a calm and pleasant atmosphere is key, making light an important tool in establishing a sense of balance and tranquillity throughout the home.
BALANCING AESTHETICS AND EVERYDAY FUNCTIONS
Henriette’s interior style is defined by a careful balance between beauty and practicality. With three children and life outside the city, functionality is essential, but never at the expense of aesthetics.
“Our home is a balance between aesthetics and functionality. I focus on integrating practical solutions in an elegant way, so they become part of the whole rather than disrupting it,” she says.
“I’m drawn to a light, calm and harmonious expression, but one that still has depth and sophistication.”
The result is a home that feels both refined and relaxed, designed to support family life while maintaining a strong visual identity.
